Red wine from Château Haut-Bergey «Tuilerie»

(contains sulphites, certified by: FR-BIO-16)

The origins of Château Haut-Bergey date back to the 15th century. The lords of La Louvière and Olivier merged their lands, creating a new fiefdom, the Mayne de Ponteil, which formed the original core of Haut-Bergey. From century to century, the estate belonged to the king’s councilors and merchants from Bordeaux, who made it their residence and continued winegrowing. Viticulture was not resumed until 1957. The acquisition of part of the neighboring Bergey winery allowed the winery to mark its revival by adopting the name “Château Haut-Bergey”.

Territory:

The fragmentation of the terroir offers a wide variety of soils (gravel, sand, clay) and sites, so that all grape varieties typical of Bordeaux can thrive.

Philosophy:

The biodynamic philosophy is applied with precision and rigor, from the modification of landscape plans to the management of the vineyards and the overall vision of the winery in its surroundings.
The seasonal calendar and the development of the vines in the vintage require responsiveness and commitment, while intention guides every gesture.
The work in the wine cellar follows the same precision: plot by plot and within the plots, adapted to the grape varieties and the age of the vines. The aim is to achieve perfect ripeness in order to produce delicious wines with a naturally present fruitiness. During aging, large barriques are used, selected throughout France for their gentleness and their support of the fruit, in order to remain as close as possible to the spirit of the vineyard.

The organic and biodynamic certification (AB, DEMETER and BIODYVIN) makes Château Haut-Bergey the first winery in Pessac-Léognan to be farmed entirely biodynamically.

Die Winzer von Château Haut-Bergey

In 1991, the Garcin family, enthusiastic about the advantages of the terroir and the charm of the property, became owners of the castle. Under the leadership of Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard, the property underwent a comprehensive vineyard and wine cellar rehabilitation plan, adopting the fundamentals of environmentally conscious agriculture. Paul Garcin has been managing the winery since 2014, which he initially farms organically and then biodynamically. Between continuity and new beginnings, a new era for Château Haut-Bergey is emerging.

Quote from winemaker Paul: « A Grand Cru must tell of the art hidden in its terroir and of the people who create it. »
